I've got nothing

Haven't posted in a while, well, because my title says it all. I've got nothing. I mean, it's all expected, as there really shouldn't be anything going on for me right now, but.....doesn't necessarily mean I like it. Lol.

When I picked my mini up from school today, she asked, "Have they started anything on the house?" I figured I could show her better than I could tell her. And it gave us a good reason to go stalk. Plus it's a pretty nice day in the DMV. This all equaled up to a trip to the big ole pile of dirt. :-)

I hadn't really taken any pictures of the entire empty lot - only the picture of the "Sold" sign. So I did do that today. Won't post them all...just one. Originally I'd requested a small lot - I'm not big on maintaining a lot of yard. But as we hung out at the lot today, I'm starting to think it's not as small as I thought. The picture is taken from the corner of my lot and baby girl is standing in the driveway and the grey SUV in the distance is at the end of the lot. The house next to my lot will be behind me. (And they have Autumn Beige siding, and it's quite pink - for all those keeping score).

I truly enjoy reading everyone's blogs...so Happy Building to all those building, Congrats to all the new home owners, and for all the 'waiters'....I feel your pain.

  1. I think I've run out of things to blog about. We finally got our official approval letter in the mail from NVR, but our LO gave us that news almost a month ago. I think this waiting period hitting all us bloggers is the reason everyone has been fixing/updating their blog layouts and themes!

    1. Oh no! I look forward to your posts!! But I know what you mean. In my brief chat with my SR, I learned that I'm gonna be 'action-less' until the END of May. Its going to be a looooong month. But it's good to know I'm not alone. :)

  3. The waiting stinks! When are you set to break ground? We still have another 5 weeks or so. You make this major decision to build a house, and many many smaller decisions (flooring, lighting, etc.) and then have to wait several months for anything to come to fruition. I guess we can keep stalking all those blogs that are in construction...and of course keep visiting models!

    1. Sounds like we may be building buddies!! I specifically requested an August closing date (due to my current living arrangements) and the Savoy isn't a huge house. My SR says we'll probably get started the very end of May/beginning of June.

It's just a crazy process. Seems like you go a thousand miles an hour...and then, the big lull. I'm just glad I've got an e-family to keep me company.

  4. That's a good-sized lot; not too big and not too small. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. It took us four months to break ground after we'd signed everything (signed in Jan, broke ground in April). But once it started, it's really gone quickly. Hang in there!

    1. Thank you! I guess I'm on par for a four month wait as well...I signed in Feb, and pray we get started in May sometime. I know it's all 'the usual', but....sheesh!

Best wishes on your build!!! :-)

  5. Waiting is terrible. You keep hoping that something is going to start soon, but it just seems to take forever. We stalked our lot for many weeks with the hopes of seeing anything. We looked for any sign of movement. It was heartbreaking, I know, to show up and see no progress. Rest assured though. Once the process begins it goes really fast. Here's crossing my fingers for you!

    1. Thanks Bryan and Angela! I enjoy your blog and post, btw. And love watching your progress. Everyone has stated how once it starts, it really picks up. I believe you guys, and I simply cannot wait!!

  6. It has been a nice week and a good time to take the pics, what a pretty lot/neighborhood you chose :) I like the space between the houses (my neighborhood does not have that).

Your yard looks like a good size, trust me once they put the house on it, it gets a lot smaller. I didn't want a large lot either (don't love yard work), but I got stuck with something FAR smaller than was acceptable.

May is pretty much here - that dirt will be a hole before you know it; hang in there!

    1. Hi Christina and glad you're 'back'! I was loving your frequent updates...I know that probably gets hard with 'real life' going on during the build. You are making great progress...can't wait to see the pics :-)

My friend said the same thing you did....we were looking at the pics I took, and he goes 'well maybe the lot looks big because....THERE IS NO HOUSE ON IT!!!' I know. I think all this waiting has made me a bit crazier than usual. Sadly, he agrees. Men.

Sorry your yard is smaller than expected. But your house is big and will be absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!

    2. Thanks - yes, work/kids/build/prepping current house for rent has really taken a toll on time. I think since the day I signed contract (actually since I started looking for homes in November) that "house" has become a bigger part of life than I ever thought it would be. Is is the same for you?

Yes, I'll get used to my yard (and eventually I'll be able to do some type of cute patio and landscaping to fancy it up). I do have to keep remembering that I was buying the house not the yard and that there was not really any better lot in the neighborhood to choose. It's just this process messin' with my head, can't wait until it's over :)

  7. I agree - the house has become a huge part of my life. I'm like, what did I use to do??? Oh yeah...sleep. Lol! It's a very consuming thing. I'll be so glad when school ends, and homework is over. I may be able to squeeze sleep in again. It's fun though!!! Mostly.

I'm sure your yard will be great and once you're in the house, it won't even be a thought. Plus once you add your personal touch, it will be beautiful. One of these days I'm planning to make it down to your neighborhood, mainly because I love scoping neighborhoods. I know it's nice. :)

  8. I hadn't realized you picked the same exact house as US. Wow, so awesome, oh the things I could tell you to HEAD off now, such little things! And we can help each other decorate! I also am so anxious to get your home started already!!!

Did you do all the bump outs too? I know I've asked you before but forgot....

    1. Oh I could talk about this stuff all day!! Lol. I got every bump out except...the garage. I wanted it, but for me, it was sooooo not necessary. I'm currently a one-adult, one-car household, so I couldn't justify the expense in my mind. But man did I want the even bigger master bedroom!!!

I mentioned in my other response that we are a little different...I did get elevation B, even though the pic I have is elevation E. I guess that would count as another bump I didn't get...2 ft in the foyer.

Your kitchen is fantabulous!! Love the big island. I have no island. :(. But again, there are only 2 people in the house. I'm sure we'll survive!!! Love you decorating!!! I'm probably one of your biggest stalkers. :)

    2. Stacey, stalk away it's why I post LOL.

I am trying to keep my mouth shut right now because I have nothing good to say and I'm really bitter, so you will have to excuse me until I get my transom window, sidewalk, lot cleared and some grass and landscaping and the outside finally freaking painted!! It just looks awful I cringe everytime I pull up to the house....

I do remember you saying about the garage, sorry I had forgotten.

      I do LOVE my island.

Decorating this place is so challenging, walls are so damn tall everything gets LOST.

    3. I'm so sorry about your issues and I'm really really hoping Ryan does right by you. I want to have faith that they will. Just know that even with the issues, you have a beautiful home!! And all the issues are fixable, which is a good thing. I'm glad you've stuck around to share the 'post' build experience, be it good or bad. It's valuable and with sharing.

  9. At least your lot is cleared! We are not even to that point yet.... Still super excited though. :)
